Dolores F. Moore Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament in its fifth year… The Wilmington Ten Foundation for Social Justice, Inc. hosted the 5th Annual Dolores F. Moore Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament on June 2, 2018, at Magnolia Greens Golf Course in Leland, N.C. Opening remarks were brought by Wayne Moore, founder and chairman of the nonprofit organization. The tournament was the most successful to date!!! We owe our success to our returning and new tournament participants, and our numerous sponsors. It is because of their continued and generous support that we were able to meet, and exceed our goal again this year. Our returning business sponsors were; Magnolia Greens Golf Course, Direct Action Media Academy, Inc (co-founder Monzell A. Dunlap), The Wilmington Journal, Pro Golf of Wilmington, Stevenson Honda Automotive Group, Piggly Wiggly (Leland, N.C.), Walmart (Leland, N.C.), New business sponsors this year were Castle Bay Country Club, Compass Pointe Golf Club, Masonboro Golf Club, Wilmington Municipal Golf, Dick’s Sporting Goods (Landfall location), and Whole Foods. Our individual sponsors were: Gold – Robert Loweth, and Wayne Moore, Silver – Joe Finley, International Longshoremen’s Assoc., Ironwood Press, LLC, and MLK Celebration Committee (Chairman: Hollis Briggs, Jr.), Bronze – Richard Ballard, Rick & Cynthia Carter, Essie W. Clay, Mary Ann Doneth, Jean M. Gailliard, Roger Gardner, John & Lori Kilbourne, William Love, James & Eloise Mays, Stephanie Moore, and Acquenetta Wheeler Hines & Lewis Hines. Our patrons were: Judy Francis, Danny & Mary Mitchell, Willie Moore, Cynthia Sedgwick, Helen Schussler, Gilda Waddell, and Pamela Wood. Also sponsoring our tournament were our beloved golfers. Golfers played in teams of four. We awarded scholarship certificates to our scholarship winners after the tournament. Our 2018 recipients of the Dolores F. Moore Scholarship Award are Cirinitti P. McCain of John T. Hoggard High School, and Naseion K. Brown of New Hanover High School. Cirinitti will be attending N.C. Agricultural & Technical University - Greensboro,N.C., with plans to double major in biology and Arabic. Her career goal is to become an FBI agent. Naseion will be attending Averitt University in Danville, Va., with plans to major in Business Administration. His career goal is to become a Financial Planner. Both students (pictured above) were very impressive, and have excelled in academic achievement, character and leadership. Both received $1000.00 scholarships to be used to further their education, and assist them in pursuing their quest for successful careers. Thank you to all of the board members for their hard work, for their commitment and for sharing their knowledge and skill to make this tournament the best one yet! We extend a very special “thank you” to our devoted volunteers: Rick & Cynthia Carter, Danny Mitchell, Cynthia Sedgwick & to our new volunteer, Kim Cook. Planning is underway for the 6th Annual Dolores F. Moore Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament, which we hope will be better than ever.
